Magnificent Members
Member Spotlight

Kalli Castille, MS, RDN, LD, FAND
Director of Nutrition and Culinary Services
Cancer Treatment Centers of America
Southwestern Regional Medical Center

What are your primary responsibilities?
We utilize the science of nutrition and the art of culinary as an integral part of the oncology clinical care team. Preventing malnutrition, improving the immune system, and increasing quality of life of cancer patients are our main goals of Nutrition and Culinary at Cancer Treatment Centers of America
What is your favorite thing about your job?
The ability to continuously innovate to provide more options to people fighting cancer. I love the people I work with and how we work together to try to improve the lives of cancer patients and their families. As a Registered Dietitian, I have the honor of empowering patients and their families through diet and lifestyle knowledge. Seeing a patient implement this knowledge is priceless.
Why is a Licensed, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist best suited for your position?
As a Licensed, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, we have the education and training to understand the complex science behind food, nutrition, and how this plays a role in the human body. Using this knowledge as a Director of Nutrition and Culinary, we can provide patients with quality food, accurate nutrition assessment, and evidence-based education while meeting the financial responsibilities of any organization. In healthcare today, malnutrition has huge effects on healthcare cost. A Registered Dietitian can help manage a patient's malnutrition which is also a win for the organization.
Why did you choose to become a Licensed, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist?
I had a passion for nutrition early in life. I found myself reading food labels and ingredients constantly to better understand how the ingredients play a role in health. When I found out as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist you could do this for a living while trying to help people improve their health, it was a dream come true. I live by a quote from Hippocrates "Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food."
Why do you feel it is important to have Licensed, Registered Dietitian Nutritionists?
One of the purposes of licensing and registration is to try to protect the public and patients. Having a license and registration helps assure the public that the assessment, knowledge, education, or counseling is from a source who has received the required training. A Licensed, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist can be utilized to help manage the symptoms of diseases such as diabetes, obesity, heart disease, cancer, and autoimmune diseases.
